Our Mission
Jesus said, “Let the children come to me.”
Through our individualized, educational, special needs, learning differences religious education program at Notre Dame of Mount Carmel Church we are continuing His work. We are dedicated to teach our children how much Jesus loves and cares for each of them. “For the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.” (Matt. 19:14)

About the Program
The Special Needs/Learning Differences Religious Education Program offers children from 5 through 21 the ability to learn about the love and care of Jesus in their own way and at their own pace. Special emphasis is provided on the sacraments of Eucharist, Reconciliation and Confirmation for those children who have not yet received these sacraments.

Schedule
NOTE: Classes begin the week of September 14th.
We have three class groups at this time: The First Eucharist class; and two other groups that range in age from 4th to 8th grade.
Most classes are held on Sunday mornings from 9:00 to 9:50 following the regular Sunday Religious Education schedule. Second-year Communion students will meet on Saturday mornings from 10:00 to 10:50.
Our special First Eucharist celebration is scheduled for March 28th at 10:00.

Registration
Program eligibility extends to all children who are classified as appropriate for special education and related services under any eligibility category.
There is open enrollment throughout the school year in the program, with a cut off of October for the First Eucharist class. Children and families need not be registered parishioners of Notre Dame to participate in the program. A brief get-to-know-you interview will be scheduled with parents and the child to determine placement as well as individual learning styles.

Program Leadership
The program is coordinated by Theresa (Terry) Wisolmerski, MA, LDT-C. She has more than 30 years of experience as teacher, behavioral specialist and learning consultant. In addition, she also has a background in theological studies. The staff of our program includes a number of teachers and adults familiar with special needs students.
