Lenten Soup Kitchen
|
 |
Whether you chose to help us run our Lenten Soup Kitchen this year,
or you wish to join us for a delicious cup of soup,
we hope to see YOU in our Parish Hall,
any or all Lenten Fridays,
anytime from 5pm – 7pm.
And please...
bring a friend – even if not a parishioner of Notre Dame. |
Our Lenten Soup Kitchen is a wonderful ministry intended to “mirror” in a small, yet sincere way, the “real” Soup Kitchens in our communities that lovingly reach out to those in need. It is also a warm and welcoming way for all of us in our parish to “journey” in fellowship through the special season of Lent.
In that light, each Friday during Lent, 5pm to 7pm in our Parish Hall, we offer the opportunity for our parish family and community friends, to come together – all ages, all generations, all status -- and share a cup(s) of delicious soup, bread and water, while enjoying the love and fellowship of our community of faith. It is undoubtedly a wonderful gift for all to gather over a “humble” meal, to chat with old friends and also make new ones!
Those who come to enjoy our Lenten Soup Kitchen Fridays are asked to make a free will offering (there will be a "Soup Kitchen" donation box on a table as one enters the Parish Hall). Donations are passed on to other organizations who help the less fortunate.
How it works…
A few weeks preceding Lent, our ministry sets up a “Lenten Soup Kitchen” table in our Gathering Space and asks members of the parish to “sign up” at the table, to make a good size pot of meatless soup on a given Friday. We usually need 10-12 soup makers for each Friday. We also ask loving volunteers to sign up to help set-up and/or clean-up on a given Friday.
Teens from our Confirmation Program are big supporters of our ministry and share in the soup-serving duties each Friday. This is an opportunity for the young people in our parish to experience the blessings of serving in ministry while fulfilling their Confirmation commitments to community service.
Interested in helping out?
Stay tuned! We will make regular announcements in our parish bulletin to let you know when we start the sign ups to help with our Lenten Soup Kitchen. If you can make a good pot of delicious meatless soup or donate bread & butter for one or more of our Lenten Soup Kitchen Fridays, please sign up at the table in our Gathering Space. We ask you to also keep in mind the following “soup making” hints:
Soup Kitchen Hints:
- Bring your soup the night before or early on Friday (please place in the kitchen refrigerator). Soups should be delivered to our parish kitchen no later than 4:30pm on Friday.
- If using broth to make soup, please use NO Meat-broth.
- Please prepare a "good-sized" pot (OK to bring in crock pot)
- Label lid and/or pot with your name.
- Pot can be picked up any time after Friday night (It will be stored in the kitchen).
If you can volunteer on a given Friday to help set up, or clean up, you may also sign up at the table in the Gathering Space, or you may contact Lorelei Kelly at loreleikelly@optonline.net.
