Special Notice on the Notre Dame Village in Haiti

Update as of January 29, 2010

We received the following information from Food for the Poor regarding the status of Notre Dame Village, which is on the northern coast of Haiti (Port au Prince is in the south):

We have not yet been able to make a complete assessment of all our projects in the outlying areas of Haiti, since we do not have staff or vehicles available currently to physically visit all these areas and bring back first hand reports. We believe Bord de Mer (the site of Notre Dame Village) to be OK. As information becomes available, we will pass it on. Thank you for Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel’s continued prayers, commitment and faithfulness to the people of Notre Dame Village and School!

Our president at Food for the Poor received the following report from our Father Duken in Haiti:
"
Thousands have lost their lives. Thousands are still alive but physically or emotionally injured. Millions are left with nothing. Those who had so little now do not have anything. There are no words to describe this situation. Many people are still in a state of shock and have not yet realized what really happened to them. Please keep us in your prayers.”

We have assured Food for the Poor that our parish family will continue to remember our Haitian brothers and sisters in prayer and through their generous donations. Please visit the following websites to stay updated on progress in Haiti:

Please join our parish family in continuing to pray for all those so heartbreakingly affected by this event.
